Case Study: Precision on the Pitch – Surveying for Premier League Standards

We’re no strangers to high-performance environments, but surveying the pitches for three Premier League football clubs earlier this month took precision to a whole new level. These projects required top-tier accuracy, efficiency and coordination with no room for mistakes and that’s exactly why we were chosen for the job!

Laying the Groundwork for Success

When it comes to sports pitches, accuracy is essential to long-term performance. Before any pitch can perform, the ground beneath must be understood in detail.

Our teams carried out a comprehensive Topographical Survey of the pitch. Using the high-precision Trimble X7 Total Station, Tri-Tech established machine control settings, providing contractors with a high-accuracy framework to guide excavation and shaping machinery.

At the same time, Site Surveying Services set out key features across the site, including drainage systems, kerbs and manholes, using the same established control. This joint approach ensured seamless alignment across every aspect of the build.

Accuracy Down to the Millimetre

We also set out pins that guided the physical installation of pitch features, and produced as-built level drawings to document every stage of the construction, verifying accuracy and consistency throughout. This detailed data ensures long-term performance, no matter what the elements bring.

From initial measurement to on-site verification, the accuracy of our work ensured that everything was in place down to the millimetre.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Alongside our technical work, we were delighted to welcome a student surveyor on site as part of their work experience. It was an incredible opportunity for them to see how geospatial technology supports major sporting infrastructure.

From using total stations in real-time to watching the dozer respond directly to our machine control systems, we were able to provide valuable insights and practical skills to the next generation!
