After a highly competitive bidding process, Bradford emerged triumphant as the designated UK City of Culture for 2025. This prestigious recognition marks the beginning of a transformative “new chapter” for Bradford, a celebration that will honour its rich heritage, diverse population, and vibrant youth community.
Already acclaimed as the best city for first-time buyers due to its affordability and strong sense of community, Bradford is poised to experience a surge in economic and cultural vitality. The City of Culture festivities are expected to generate thousands of new jobs, benefiting various sectors from trades to the creative industries. Similar to the impactful outcome experienced by Coventry, the 2021 City of Culture, which attracted £172 million in inward investment and over a million people through 700 ticketed events, Bradford is anticipated to surpass these figures in both outcome and turnout.
To support the ambitious project goals for 2025 and beyond, Bradford will receive increased funding, contributing to the development of new event facilities. The official announcement of Bradford as the UK City of Culture 2025 was made live on BBC The One Show in May 2022. This prestigious title, awarded every four years by the government, has historically triggered significant positive transformations in host cities, attracting substantial investments and catalyzing culture-led regeneration.
As the UK’s youngest city, with 29% of its population under 20 and nearly a quarter under 16, Bradford’s young residents will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering a culturally rich year. The city’s history of independence, progressive social reform, and spectacular cultural heritage provide a strong foundation for an extraordinary UK City of Culture celebration in 2025 that is uniquely Bradford.
The bid is supported by the Bradford Metropolitan District Council as part of Culture is Our Plan, the council’s cultural strategy until 2031. The University of Bradford is a strategic partner, and businesses across the district have rallied behind the bid, highlighting the collaborative and community-driven approach that will define Bradford’s tenure as the UK City of Culture.
Bradford Live
Tri-Tech Surveys and Site Surveying have provided surveying services throughout the rejuvenation and development of the historic Bradford Odeon, a significant landmark in the heart of the city centre. Since the beginning of this transformative project, the companies have been instrumental in providing essential surveying services.
Originally constructed in 1930, the iconic art deco building is undergoing a remarkable restoration process to revive its former glory. The goal is to transform it into a vibrant entertainment hub for the city, breathing new life into this historic structure.
The building has sat empty and unused for the past 23 years. But, is due to reopen in 2024 the venue is expected to draw 300,000 visitors annually and have the capacity for 3,800 people.
Managed by the Bradford Live team in collaboration with the NEC Group, the UK’s leading live events business, the development is poised to reintroduce the Bradford Odeon as a world-class leisure and business destination.
Upon completion, the revitalised venue will offer a diverse calendar of over 200 world-class music, comedy, and family entertainment events. Additionally, it will provide the city with state-of-the-art conference, meeting, and banqueting spaces, further solidifying its role as a dynamic and multifaceted cultural centre.
