Guided by a collaborative initiative between the private sector and government at regional and national levels, the 25-year vision for the site aims to transform it into a globally recognised industrial hub with a strong emphasis on clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
In one of the UK’s most extensive demolition efforts, 38 structures related to the former Redcar Steelworks have been dismantled, rejuvenating around 4,500 acres of land south of the River Tees. This initiative includes the creation of 4.5 million square feet of cutting-edge manufacturing space dedicated to offshore wind, potentially generating 4,000 jobs.
A new 1-kilometer quay will be constructed alongside 500 acres designated for manufacturing, storage, and handling facilities. Several significant projects, set to generate thousands of jobs, have already been announced. Among them is the development of 4.5 million square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing space for offshore wind, with the potential to create over 4,000 direct jobs. Additionally, a brand-new offshore wind heavy lift quay is underway at South Bank, supported by a £113 million government loan. Work has commenced on SeAH Wind Ltd’s colossal £450 million offshore wind monopile production facility, positioning Teesworks to become the UK’s premier destination for offshore wind initiatives.
