OVERVIEW:
Highfurlong School is a nationally recognised Special Educational Needs (SEN) facility in Blackpool, known for providing exceptional support to pupils with complex needs. As part of an upcoming extension project, Eric Wright Construction required precise survey data to develop safe, compliant design proposals.
Site Surveying Services were commissioned to deliver a full topographical survey and PAS 128 utility mapping survey of the site, capturing all features that would influence construction planning.
the challenge
Working on a live SEN school comes with unique considerations:
A busy safeguarding-sensitive environment
Restricted working windows around pupil movements
Underground utilities of mixed age and depth.
Tight space constraints for survey equipment
The need to remain unobtrusive and low-impact
Every stage required thoughtful planning to ensure safety, accessibility and minimal disruption.
our approach:
Our team scheduled work around the school timetable, maintaining clear communication with staff to ensure the environment stayed safe and uninterrupted. We delivered:
Full topographical survey of the extension area
PAS 128 utility mapping including GPR scanning and line tracing
Accurate level data to support drainage, access and design decisions
Coordinated datasets ready for the architect and contractor
The project demonstrated our commitment to supporting public-sector environments where precision and care go hand in hand.
results & impact
The final survey package equipped the design and construction teams with:
Clear mapping of underground utilities to avoid clashes
Reliable, high-accuracy data for safe planning
Verified levels for accessible, compliant design
A confident foundation for the extension’s technical development
The project demonstrated our commitment to supporting public-sector environments where precision and care go hand in hand.
