Lostock works
The primary objective of this project was to perform a detailed and complex laser scan of the Lostock Works site, which required a high degree of precision due to its intricate layout and environmental conditions.
Known for its accuracy, the Leica TS16 was the primary tool used for this survey and two Trimble X7s laser scanners were deployed to capture high-resolution data, essential for mapping the intricate details of the site. Two highly skilled surveyors were assigned to this project, bringing expertise and adaptability to manage the challenging conditions.
The survey was conducted in the heart of winter, with snow-covered ground posing significant obstacles. Additionally, brine water being brought into the Works site generated substantial amounts of steam, further complicating visibility and data capture.
The intricate layout of the Lostock Works limited the field of view for our scanners, necessitating a greater number of scans to ensure comprehensive coverage. This involved meticulous planning and execution to navigate the site efficiently.
A key feature of the site was an old bridge, extended with temporary timber and steel additions, creating a more complex terrain. The bridge spanned the Trent and Mersey Canal, with only one side accessible from the site, making access and scanning particularly challenging. The bridge connected to three large industrial drums, surrounded by a maze of stairwells and structures. Navigating and scanning these interconnected elements required precision and careful coordination to capture all necessary details.
Given the layout restrictions and environmental conditions, our team conducted numerous scans to ensure no detail was missed. This comprehensive approach was essential to meet the project’s high specifications. Despite access difficulties, particularly around the canal and the old bridge, our team strategically positioned the scanners to optimise data capture while ensuring safety and efficiency.
Our meticulous approach and use of advanced technology ensured the client received detailed and precise data, facilitating informed decision-making for ongoing and future projects at the Lostock Works site.

topographical surveys
Tri-Tech work for a variety of different clients on different projects, and we pride ourselves on delivering accurate, efficient, cost effective surveys ensuring our clients receive the best possible product.
utility mapping
Using the latest equipment, we can provide the location of underground services in either 2D or 3D. We use state of the art Ground Penetrating Radar and Electromagnetic Location to assist your project when service avoidance may be a potential issue on site.
monitoring
Is there any movement? That is the question that is asked before and during any monitoring scheme. That is the reason we undertake monitoring, to check for movement.
laser scanning
For mass collection of accurate survey data then nothing beats scanning. Using 3D laser Scanners the surveyors can capture millions of points per second with the creation of a PointCloud.
volumetric analysis
We specialise in the analysis of a scheme’s volumetrics at any point in time. Be it Tender, Prestart, Monthly, Weekly, or Final.
Bathymetric surveys
By using the latest surveying technology, we have been able to survey watercourses safely and efficiently.
setting out & site engineering
Bread and butter work for us! Having a strong relationship with many civil engineering companies we have a very strong team of Site Engineers and Engineering Surveyors working for us.
control network installation
At Tri-Tech we have vast experience in this field. Be it a large highway scheme or a private property we can advise on what accuracies are required from your control network depending on what work you are carrying out and the tolerances you are carrying this work out to.
uav mapping & aerial surveys
Large areas of ground can be covered capturing the most unbelievable detail which would just be unable to be recorded with traditional methods. Our clients have really seen the benefit of what UAV surveys bring to the table.
