Monitoring York City walls
Following a successful tender, Tri-Tech were commissioned to install a monitoring system to ensure the overall safety of the public and the famous Medieval city walls in York whilst demolition and construction work was taking place on the project.
Liasing closely with the site team, we implemented a 24/7 automated monitoring system which would deliver a monitoring report every 15minutes day in day out, giving our client a more comprehensive analysis and the ability to identify any movement within the wall.
This project took careful planning and given a tight deadline our team set about customising security cages for each of the three Trimble Geospatial S7 total stations. By doing this it enabled each total station a greater line of sight once fitted whilst maintaining complete security of the unit.
We spent five long days (and some nights) in York running mainly on caffeine and fish and chips, however this resulted in the swift installation of 3 Trimble Geospatial total stations carefully secured in a number of elevated positions and over 150 targets and prisms fixed in and around the city wall.
We are delighted to report that the system is running smoothly as the initial demolition work is coming to completion and construction is well underway.
Keep your eyes on our feed over the next few weeks as we will be following up with an additional post showing data examples and how we ensured everything gathered was within the tolerances required to make this monitoring project a great success.
